This was a 59 yrs old lady who sufferred from Fuch's Endothelial Dystrophy with Cataract, she had problem with her back layer of the cornea which was replaced in the form of DSEK : Descemet's Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty with cataract surgery by Phacoemulsification with Foldable Intra Ocular lens Implantation ( Triple Procedure ). Her vision was counting finger 2-3 meters which improved to 6/6 by the end of 4 weeks. Cornea appears clear as in the image. The advantage of this procedure is that there are no surface stitches like the full thickness Grafts and hence the visual rehabilitation is much faster.
All lamellar procedures have distinct advantages over full thickness procedure as here only the diseased layers of the cornea are replaced by healthy Donor Corneal layers in otherwords it is also known as Component Corneal Transplant. Relatively these corneas have lesser chance of rejection.
